Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning, design, implementation, operations, and maintenance (O&M) support activities related to the AMI Infrastructure.
  • Project Manage the annual capital expansion projects.
  • Conduct radio propagation modeling and prediction, interference analysis, and intermodulation studies
  • Develop and maintain the backhaul strategy of the system
  • Provide root-cause analysis and troubleshooting of the AMI network
  • Evaluate and assess site infrastructure including antenna systems, repeaters, and signal amplifiers
  • Perform analysis and process support for legacy and emerging wireless AMI technologies (FlexNet)
  • Manage the tuning efforts of the end devices including the operations of the Sensus Flexet NMS (network management system) product
  • Work with Internal / External partners to administer maintenance activities of the AMI Network
  • Develop strategies to provide O&M savings over time
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators for network activities
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
  • Knowledge of IT processes and back-end systems associated with transporting data from Smart Points to the Head-end, including data collectors, RF, WAN and LAN (wired and wireless) data communication systems
  • Expertise of RF in a wireless environment
  • Good understanding of RF Principles, such as Link Budget Analysis, Antenna Theory, etc.
  • Proficiency with performing propagation analysis with tools such as Techwizard, Vertical Mapper, Atoll Radio Planning, Planet EV or similar propagation analysis
  • Understanding of a Spectrum Analyzer and the ability to support Field Engineers using Spectrum Analyzers to troubleshoot performance issues
  • Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Experience with Ansible or other automation tools is a plus
  • General knowledge of the budgeting process related to managing Capital and O&M activities
  • Experience with Vendor Management
  • Knowledge of Smart Meter Infrastructure Systems is a plus
  • General understanding of electricity utility operations is preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and other computer software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years' experience in RF, AMI/AMR, Cellular is required
  • Experience supporting wireless carrier equipment (AT&T, client, Southern LINC / LTE)
  • Experience developing Measures of Performance and Measures of Effectiveness that are used for traceability to ensure specified performance thresholds are met
  • Experience with mapping software such as MapInfo, Streets & Trips, Delorme or similar mapping software would be a plus
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with the ability to convey complex technical issues
  • Ability to build relationships, to communicate and work with all levels of management, vendors, and other internal and external groups and customers and exhibit positive influence at all levels
  • Basic programming experience a plus
  • Periodic after hours and weekend work
