Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine compliance oversite and monitoring during active construction to ensure adherence to environmental permit conditions and protection measures.
- Perform specialized avian surveys to identify species and determine nest status, particularly for raptors and other protected species.
- Conduct general biological fieldwork, including habitat assessments and sensitive, threatened, and endangered species surveys.
- Collect, analyze, and manage field data using GPS and GIS technologies.
- Author technical reports to support federal and land use permit applications, environmental permit applications, and other required client and agency deliverables.
- Support project managers with regulatory strategy and client communications.
- Travel to project sites as required (approximately 30%).
- Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
- All other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
- Key Skills: Conducting Biological Fieldwork, Permitting Process, Field Surveys, Mapping, Preparing Reports & Field Assessments.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, or related field from an accredited program required.
- Completion of a master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
- A minimum of 4 years of professional experience conducting biological fieldwork and environmental permitting.
- Demonstrated experience identifying avian species of the Western U.S. and conducting nest status surveys.
- Direct experience performing environmental compliance monitoring for construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of major environmental regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, and the Endangered Species Act.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Valid driver's license required; in addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy
- Desired/Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with species-specific surveys for burrowing owls, Mexican spotted owls, and various raptors.
- Project experience in Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, and/or Utah.
- Professional certifications or credentials from federal or state agencies.
- Proficiency with GIS data collection and management software (e.g., Esri Field Maps, Survey123).
