Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
  • This is an entry level position into the Data and Voice Innovation team which is responsible for the architecture and engineering standard development for various areas including voice, WAN, wireless, edge, and specialty solutions.
  • This position is also responsible for the design, implementation, testing and documentation of complex data and voice network solutions for nonstandard areas.
  • This position requires a thorough understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and a general understanding of VOIP, wireless and firewall technologies.
  • Network automation with programming and scripting are additional skills that are highly valued.
  • The successful candidate will be a self-starter who exceeds with little supervision and works with small teams using Agile engineering principles.
  • Work in an Agile engineering environment on team-based projects and assignments, current project requirements are for preparing the data network at remote sites.
  • Mentor and cross train various other staff across Telecom in all regions
  • Continuous development of both soft skills (leadership, communication, etc) and technical skills
  • Creation of network infrastructure designs, configurations, standards, and documentation to effectively deliver network solutions, specifically for the Corporate Edge environment
  • Develop and maintain standards and template form deployment of standard product line
  • Provide product line management functions such as inventory control, product lifecycle roadmaps, product research, development, and testing
  • Participate in RFP/RFI discussions with vendors
  • Define and document technical requirements for new capabilities, work with key suppliers to solution, build and certify ensuring compliance with all functional, operational and business objectives.
  • Develop proposals and communicate outcomes that address business value/risk and gain partner approval
  • Collaborate closely with peer IT organizations helping to influence, guide and direct technical outcomes, ensuring mutual strategy alignment
  • Maintain accurate diagrams and configurations for all network devices.
  • Prepare and implement engineering job packages consisting of detailed parts / equipment lists, and appropriate documentation (drawings, network diagrams, configurations, etc.).
  • Ensure cost effective design of systems with the ultimate goal of meeting business needs and providing reliable and efficient service to the customer.
  • Prepare and submit cost estimates for planned installations where required.
  • Collaborate across the IT and Enterprise Security organization to provide end-to-end solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complexing routing designs, LAN switching environments, and firewall policy
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Systems Technology, Engineering or other related discipline
  • In addition to required degree, five (5) years minimum of related work experience
  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree AND five (5) years minimum of related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 10 years minimum related work experience
  • Cisco Certifications: CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP
  • Experience with the following network hardware/software solutions:
  • Cisco routers, switches, wireless controllers, Client, phones, ASAs, Client
  • Cisco IOS, Cisco IOS-XR, Cisco IOS-XE, Cisco NXOS
  • Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama
  • Advanced working experience with network technologies and protocols such as BGP, OSPF, Overlay networking (e.g. DMVPN, FlexVPN, SDWAN, SDA), IPSec, MPLS, IKEv2, IPv6, Route-maps, SNMP, ACL, RADIUS/TACACS, and Syslog
  • Design, implementation, and/or support of datacenter technologies (ACI, VPC, etc.)
  • Experience in leading key network projects, representing the organization and working closely with Product Owners, Operations, Business Units, Suppliers, and Peer Organizations
  • Experience with designing communications solutions for SCADA systems
  • Ability to design repeatable, reliable, and scalable solutions with fault tolerance, performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery
  • Experience with Python, shell scripts, RESTful APIs, EEM Scripting, JSON/XML
  • Experience navigating process oriented workflows, understanding many different internal business partner requirement and building good working relationships.
  • Provide enterprise level architecture, design and support of Telecommunications Services needed to support infrastructure and business applications.
  • These services include, but are not limited to Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET), Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Optical Transport Network (OTN), Local Area Networks (LAN), Voice Over IP (VOIP), Land Mobile Radio, Microwave Packet Radio and a variety of other hardware and software solutions.
  • Positions also integrate applications to enable usage, support, and monitoring of these various hardware technologies.
  • Positions develop and maintain routine work procedures and define standard designs, installation, support and upgrade methodologies.
  • Responsibilities may include evaluation, acquisition, design, installation, integration testing, upgrading components, operational support and performance monitoring.
  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university. In lieu of a degree, 15 years related business experience.
  • 5-8 years of job related experience.
  • One year experience with Microsoft (MS) Windows Operating Systems and MS Office.
  • Ability to direct work, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others.
  • Able to resolve complex issues that require significant freedom of action and sound judgment with little management oversight.
  • Experience with position specific technical Software and Hardware.
  • Computer skills, including general usage and support.
  • Ability to research independently, multi-task, and meet deadlines under tight timeframes.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with different levels within the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a work plan driven/team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Identifies and coordinates the development of telecom technologies for application in the business. Expert working knowledge of the telecommunications systems, associated safety policies, practices, work procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Recognizes appropriate times to raise issues and provide status updates.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills (listening, conflict management, approachability, negotiations) with ability and willingness to share information and transfer knowledge to others.
  • Able to present information on technically complex subjects in an understandable manner in both oral and written form to senior management and any other necessary audience.
  • Demonstrates ability to absorb change and continue with positive results.
  • Exhibits confidence and proper level of assertiveness when needed.
  • Displays maturity in approach and ability to effectively handle stress and frustration.
