L4 Network Firewall Engineer

Pay Range: $40 - $45/hour.  Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).

Key Responsibilities:

• Configure, deploy, and manage enterprise firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point, Cisco ASA, or similar).
• Implement Layer 4 (Transport Layer) security controls, including port-based filtering, session control, and stateful inspection.
• Perform firewall rule analysis, optimization, and policy cleanup to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
• Troubleshoot complex network connectivity issues using advanced packet capture and traffic analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark, TCPdump).
• Design and maintain secure network architectures for on-premises and cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP) environments.
• Conduct change management and participate in network security reviews, audits, and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with network operations, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure system reliability and security compliance.
• Maintain documentation for network topology, configurations, and standard operating procedures.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience: 

• 5+ years of experience in network engineering or network security roles.
• Strong hands-on experience with enterprise-grade firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point, Cisco Firepower).
• In-depth understanding of Layer 4 protocols (TCP/UDP) and session management concepts.
• Expertise in routing, switching, VPNs (IPSec/SSL), NAT, and network segmentation.
• Familiarity with network monitoring, SIEM tools, and security best practices.
• Experience with incident response and firewall log analysis.
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
