Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist – Laboratory

Pay Range: $30 - $50/hour. Traveler benefits as per agency package. (Benefits vary by vendor and assignment.).
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- 5 days/week including every other weekend (Saturday & Sunday).
- Support EHS programs including biosafety, chemical safety, hazardous & medical waste, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and emergency response
- Conduct laboratory safety inspections (biosafety, fire prevention, hazardous materials compliance)
- Record findings in EHS database and drive corrective actions
- Oversee hazardous, medical, and universal waste collection and documentation
- Respond to workplace incidents and conduct investigations
- Perform hazard identification, risk assessments, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
- Coordinate CPR, First Aid, and AED trainings
- Deliver EHS orientation training to contractors
- Support lab commissioning, decommissioning, and safety equipment setup
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations
- Maintain documentation per regulatory deadlines
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field
- 0–5 years of EHS experience (biotech, pharmaceutical, or R&D laboratory preferred)
- Working knowledge of OSHA and applicable EHS regulations
- Familiarity with ANSI, NFPA, or NEC standards
- Experience with hazardous waste management
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Experience supporting laboratory-based EHS programs
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis experience
- Experience with EHS databases and compliance tracking systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving research environment
- Proficiency with Google Docs, Sheets, and general office software
